Overview

Intelligent Cloud – Data Engineering – Data Architect (C1)

Role Overview 

The Data Architect designs and implements intelligent data platforms and analytics solutions for client organisations, delivering reliable and accessible information for business use. The role ensures client data architectures can accommodate both structured and unstructured data, supporting advanced analytics and AI initiatives. The Data Architect’s work involves modelling, integration, and governance to enable high-quality, analytics-ready datasets, while collaborating with engineers, analysts, and client stakeholders to create scalable, secure, and future-ready data environments.

Main Responsibilities

• Design and document data architectures for client projects, confirming alignment with senior data architects to ensure consistency with business objectives, technical requirements, and governance standards. 

  • Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to ensure solutions meet agreed specifications, integration needs, and organisational priorities. 
  • Support build, testing, and deployment activities, maintaining quality, security, and compliance with established data management practices. 
  • Conduct solution reviews and recommend improvements to data models, integration patterns, and storage solutions. 
  • Assist in defining data flows, ETL processes, and integration points between systems to ensure performance and scalability. 
  • Contribute to the creation of technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and data dictionaries for project deliverables. 
  • Provide on-site support as required by the company or client.

  • Carry out additional duties as may occur from time to time as instructed and agreed by senior members. 
  • Willing to travel abroad when required. 
  • Performance manage and/or mentor junior members of the team. 
  • Within your role, you have the responsibility of protecting all information that is shared with you in the course of your association with KPMG (including information provided by clients) in line with the requirements of the Information Security Policy as stated within your contractual agreement. 
  • Policies are subject to regular review and change and hence the employee is obliged to remain updated accordingly. 

Experience and Background

  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in designing and implementing data architectures. 
  • Strong knowledge of data modelling, integration patterns, and governance principles. 
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders to deliver solutions meeting business and technical needs. 
  • Good presentation and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure. 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Strong experience in designing and implementing data solutions using tools and platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft Power BI, Azure Data Factory, 
  • Azure Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Entra ID, and Azure Policies. 
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as DAX, SQL, SparkSQL, Python, and PySpark. 
  • Experience with delivery platforms such as Azure DevOps and GitHub.
